Four things you might miss in 'Breaking Dawn'

Summit Entertainment

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's round of hot honeymoon chess recreates the "Breaking Dawn" book cover.

"Twilight" fans generally know the books and the series so well that it can be hard to surprise them. But having just seen "Breaking Dawn Part 1," I'd like to point out four things that you might miss during the film if you don't know they're there. They're listed in the order they unfold in the film. (Possible spoilers ahead.)

1. Author Stephenie Meyer's cameo
Like Alfred Hitchcock famously did, the author of the series has been known to show up in quick little roles in her movies -- she played a diner patron in "Twilight." In "Breaking Dawn Part 1," she can be spotted as a guest at Bella and Edward's wedding, right next to screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg and producer Wyck Godfrey. She has long dark hair and seems to be wearing a rose-colored dress. Numerous "Twilight" sites have helpfully identified Meyer, Rosenberg and Godfrey, so check out this image if you want to know where to look for her. (Yep, that's BooBoo Stewart, or Seth Clearwater, behind Meyer.)

2. Quick reference to Taylor Lautner's "Abduction" movie
In "Abduction," which came out in September, "Twilight" star Lautner plays a young man who finds his face on a missing-kids website. In a "Breaking Dawn" scene, Kristen Stewart's Bella teases Lautner's Jacob that she hasn't seen him in a while, joking "didn't I see your face on a milk carton?"

3. Hey, isn't that the book cover?
The original "Twilight" book features hands cradling an apple, and that image was recreated with Bella and Edward in a scene in the Forks High School cafeteria in the first movie. The cover of the "Breaking Dawn" book shows a white chess king on a chessboard with a red pawn in the background. It's a little unusal since chess pieces are more often black and white, not white and red, but you'll see the book cover recreated in a honeymoon scene, and yes, the colors match the cover. Only Edward would bring a chessboard along on his honeymoon.

4. Volturi scene after the credits
Stay in your seat after the closing credits roll. Just a few minutes in, the credits stop and fans are treated to a sneak peek scene that sets up "Part 2," which comes out in November 2012. I won't spoil it, but let's just say that proper spelling and grammar are very, very important to the Volturi. And it's CARLISLE, with an "S."

Will you see "Breaking Dawn"? What scene are you most looking forward to? Tell us in the comments.

I'm pretty sure Bella's "face on a milk carton" comment was in the book, so it predates "Abduction" by about 3 years.

Thank you! I was pretty annoyed at that in this article. Jacob has run off into the wilderness and Charlie's going crazy trying to find him.

EXACTLY!

Yes agreed, thankyou for pointing that out! People really need to read or re-read the books before making daft claims.

Agreed. The beginning of BD (book) has Bella driving in her Mercedes Guardian while the town is papered with Missing Jacob flyers (put up by Charlie). He took off at the end of Eclipse and doesn't return until the wedding.

I've tried to read this series and it only infuriates me. It's so infantile. I'll be so glad when these movies are done with. I can avoid the books, but commercials for the movies are EVERYWHERE.

I wonder how many dumb teenagers are going to want to go get married and start having babies because they see this movie. Ohh let's get pregnant like Bella! :P

I have to be perfectly honest and say, I was completely disappointed by the movie. Don't get me wrong...if the movie hadn't been based on a book, it would have been a great movie. But it was based on a book and the differences between the movie and book were ridiculous. All 3 of the previous movies in the Twilight series were very similar to the books. This one added a "toasting session", 2 fight scenes which weren't in the book, Edward throwing Jacob into a wall, which wasn't in the book and the transition from human to vampire was completely disappointing compared to the book. All they showed were "House" visions inside the human body and memories from the previous 3 movies. Where was the excruciating burning? Where did it show Bella's self control as to not needlessly hurt Edward which sets up how perfect a vampire she eventually becomes compared to the fragile, didn't-fit-in as a human? Why didn't they show any of the funny scenes between Rosalie and Jacob during the time Bella was pregnant? There were more sex scenes in the movie than the book. Stephenie let the reader use their imaginations regarding the sex. For Stephenie Meyers to be an actual producer for this film (she was only a consultant on the other films), I felt she let her readers down in order to gross more profits in order to attract more "male viewers" with fake fight scenes and sex scenes. This was also the shortest movie of the 4 and I can only wonder how many minutes of deleted footage could have been added in order to enrich the movie.

I understand that movies are generally VERY different than the books they are based upon. However, the previous 3 movies were very similar to the books and were great movies because of it. They definitely should have added the term, "LOOSELY" to the phrase...Based on the book, Breaking Dawn.

I soooo agree WHOLEHEARTEDLY with CDT 4553005... it was a colossal waste of film ... if u cant be true to the book , the style , the ideas why bother ? I wasted money on that crap... the fan fiction ppl could of made a better anime!!!!! But of all the movies I felt the physical presence and character dress was sooooo FANTASTIC... it was exactly how I imagined the other Vampires to look like... but we saw no Austrian brothers ... no Sth American vampires and especially no "Shelagh" from Ireland?????? If Ms Meyers wanted to support her hard work maybe she should have gone back to the original Director (Twilight - Catherine Hardwicke)... after all her casting of the two main characters have made these Movies and especially the books what they have become today... no mean feat!!!!

The movies are "based" off the books, which means they can change them however they want. Frankly, I thought Breaking Dawn was the best. Yeah, they made additions, but they helped in the long run. The previous three sucked horribly: Twilight was a cut and paste job, with an awful blue filter that gave me a headache, New Moon was too focused on CGI, and the script suffered for it, and Eclipse (while better than the prior two) had just as many issues.

Oh, Wendrywu: what the heck are you talking about "other vampires?" The South Americans, Irish, and all the other vampires aren't coming until Breaking Dawn Part 2!

Originally I was skeptical about starting another series, but obviously was hooked! I have to agree. The other movies were so well done. This one was kind of cheezy in some parts. It was almost ridiculous. The dream sequence at the beginning where Bellah and Edward on on this pile of bodies was like a B-Horror flick, the conversations between the wolf pack were just done way wrong. I love this part of the story for many reasons and I think the director they chose was not the correct one for this portion of the story. It almost seemed as if SM was not even involved in telling her own story. I am such a HUGE fan of the characters and SM and the story. I wish it would have been done differently. I dont have the check book I guess to bank roll that one. I am anxious for part 2, but a little gun shy about the experience. It will be really cool to see how they depict the other clans. Anxiously awaiting!

I'm fairly sure I'll miss something in this movie since I wouldn't watch it to save burning kittens in a fireplace.

I saw the movie and will see it again soon! I thought it was a very good movie. Yes there were differences in this movie that I noticed from the books, but the first 3 movies had some obvious differences (things left out, other things added) too. In Twilight, I thought the book's version of Bella's revelation of Edward's vampirism went much smoother and was A LOT less sappy than how the movie handled it. I also was annoyed they did not include the blood-typing in biology class scene in the movie because it would have provided the audiences who will only see the movies (and not read the books) more insight into why it's so ironic that Bella would ever want to date a vampire, let alone become one too! With Breaking Dawn, I was disappointed that Bella's most memorable line from the first half of the book (or at least the whole wedding/honeymoon section) was not in the movie at all! (The line was "Why am I covered in feathers?" You can tell she's thinking it in the movie, but it would be so much funnier if she said it out loud.) And I noticed the style of the music in Breaking Dawn went back to the style of Twilight. At first I was bummed because I was hoping for a different sound, but then it all came together towards the end where we have Bella's theme from the first movie morphing into something new at the end of Breaking Dawn. I love it! I know when it comes time for the Academy Awards and everything, the right movies never get their deserved credit for soundtracks and background music! The awards always go to anything John Williams does or other big names like that. But this time I definitely think the Academy would be completely missing something if Breaking Dawn did not win Best Soundtrack this year!
