Jon Stewart fires back at FOX after O'Reilly says he's going to hell

Fox News

On his Fox News show, "The O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly said Jon Stewart was headed for hell.

"Daily Show" host Jon Stewart found himself in hot water -- and maybe bound for something far, far hotter -- after he declared a mock war on Christmas.

"A couple of nights ago, I responded to the ginned-up outrage that many Christmas celebrants feel when they are unable to celebrate Christmas at all times, in all places," Stewart told viewers on Thursday night's show.

He then ran a clip of his call to war, which not so surprisingly, caught the attention of his TV nemesis and frequent feud partner, Bill O'Reilly.

"Our pal Jon Stewart is following the various Christmas controversies very closely," the man Stewart dubbed "one of Santa's unusually large elves" told his "O'Reilly Factor" audience before adding, "Now, there is no question Mr. Stewart is going to hell."

OooK. Well, even if O'Reilly wasn't totally serious about that claim -- and he did let out a little chuckle after making it -- as it turns out, the joke's still on him. Because his rival isn't exactly afraid of the flames.

"Here's what you and your minions don't understand, O'Reilly," Stewart stated. "Your hell doesn't scare me. I make my living watching Fox News eight hours a day. I'm already in hell."

Snap!

Do you think O'Reilly will let the war of words drop, or should Stewart expect another jab to come his way soon? Tell us in the comments section below.

Bill O'Reilly is a garden-variety sociopath that is lacking in intellect. He won't let it go until he has squeezed whatever "ratings value" he can get out of it.

Watching FOX 8 hours a day WOULD be Hell. I can't stand it for 8 seconds, 8 hours would certainly be cruel and unusual punishment for ANY CRIME.

I'm worried what all this may be doing to Jon Stewart's mental health.

John, please man, take a break, watch a little TV LAND or the Cartoon Network, I'm worried about you man.

guess if you are happy with your head in the sand, then don't watch Fox News.

But Fox broke the Rev Wright Story where Obama went to a racist church for 20 years and they broke the Acorn story where Obama's former employer taught people how to bring in illegal immigrant teen girls for prostitution.

Mr. Ramjet, is that all you have for FOX "breaking" a story? We all saw how important those two efforts were. Voters essentially laughed at them. Guilt by association is a slick campaign tactic. Keep watching how it works on the conservative candidates just coming under scrutiny.

As a method forunderstanding a candidate it is akin to "hearsay" in court.

I don't think people realize how many times O'Reilly has been on Stewart's show and Stewart on O'Reilly's. I don't think O'Reilly and Stewart hate each other as many try to view it. They are two guys who are at the top of their industry right now and they know how to stay there. They play off each other and I bet they respect each other, I'm not saying they are friends but this isn't a battle of two hated enemies.

I personally don't watch Jon Stewart anymore. I do consider myself a Conservative. I am Roman Catholic and I do like to celebrate Christmas. So when a Jewish man goes on TV and declares a "War on Christmas" even if it's a joke it's just not funny to me. Now by no means will you ever see me yelling to get him off TV because of that joke. He has every right to say it, it's his show and it's a free country and as long as Viacom is ok w/ him then it's none of my concern. I just have the right not to watch him, which I don't.

It's interesting, when I was in college Stewart came onto the scene and I watched him nightly. Now as I get older and more mature and comfortable in my beliefs/opinions and where I'm going in life, you are more likely to see me watching Fox News than Comedy Central. Go ahead, insult me. The difference is I don't insult you. Until people can learn to sit down and have intelligent conversations about beliefs nothing matters. Especially when I don't know who you are and I don't care what you think about me.

Dear Roger Dodger

While some of us may indeed have our heads in the sand you clearly have yours stuck up your.....and the lack of oxygen has impaired your ability to think clearly. So, please pull your head out and stop watching propaganda posing as news.

Fox is to journalism what the Hindenburg was to aviation, a flaming bag of gas.

If you are turning to Fox as your primary source for news then you are sadly misinformed and by this time thoroughly brain-washed. Why don't you surf on over to Fox and tell them those mean kids at MSNBC beat you up and took your lunch money.

Folks. I think Roger Ramjet was actually being facetious. By using those examples of Fox breaking "news" stories, he was actually making fun of Fox, and apparently seriously pulling the legs of many of you, judging by some of these responses. Ever hear the term "tongue-in-cheek"?

Roger, let me know if I've misread you, because I think that there's no way you were actually serious. You sure yanked some chains there!

I find it funny that Rupert Murdoch considers FoxNews as a source of "entertainment" but not necessarily as a news organization. I have seen him say this is other interviews in the past. I wish I could find them so I can share, but I digress.

If you want news that is closer to the truth listen/read stuff from the Associated Press or NPR. I mean seriously, the AP is the standard that all news is formatted and essentially based off of.

"Folks. I think Roger Ramjet was actually being facetious."

Well sarcasm in a text based format is one of the dumbest things that one can choose to do - since you can't hear the voice it is absolutely impossible to determine if they really meant it or are being sarcastic.

Even children know this these days!

Since they put the entire post in bold I'd suggest that Roger actually meant it... and there's nothing to suggest anything to the contrary - people who think of Fox as a news source often have issues with such simple things as web browsers.

      Hey, Roger:

So Fox "broke the news" about Rev. Wright, eh? Was that before or after they "broke the news" about Obama being a Muslim?

You can't have it both ways. Either Obama, as a one-time member of Rev. Wright's congregation, is a Christian, or he's not. Which is it?

All of this shines brighter than Jon Stewart being the only "News Program" that reported the United States Congress Passed a bill that if signed by President Obama would circumvent the Fourth amendment by allowing any President as in Obama and anyone else elected president in the future:

To arrest, and permanently detain any US citizen accused of supporting terrorism by said unknown government agencies.

Without charging them, without due process of law, and with unlimited restrictions on the time a US citizen can be held.

(And tortured if the US elects a Cheney or Bush sadist again.)

Now just for a moment think, lets give the TSA unlimited power to detain and hold you forever at the airport as you are attempting to travel because the TSA screwed up their list and confused you with Bill Smith who recently converted to Islam and has been buying up big bottles of peroxide at your local Wal-Mart.

In other words Republican Phil Graham the same Congressman who lead the GOP Congress and put his name on the bill that repealed the Glass-Steagall act in 1999, that ultimately lead to the default of the Worlds Banking system, collapse of the housing market, millions of jobs losses world wide not seen since the depression, and closures of thousands of businesses world wide is now leading the GOP Congresses to repeal the Fourth amendment of the Constitution of the United States guarantee of due process of law to all US citizens. Where do I get my brown hat and brown shirt?

Shine on Jon, shine on … Please keep poking you finger in the eyes of theses thugs before they drowned out the last voices of reason with fear.

Missedmark are you speaking for all Jews? There is a ton of diversity in what Jews believe. I don't think you can safely generalize that Jews only believe in "fill in the blank" or don't believe in "fill in the blank." There are plenty of Jews who do believe in an afterlife and lots who don't.

And O’Reilly responded last night, so what? They are actually friends and see this as an opportunity for a bit of amusing banter between them and for ratings. However, that doesn’t prevent the ideologues from spewing their usual delusional rants and taking sides as if O'Reilly and Stewart are actually serious.

LetMeExplain, you are seriously underrestimating the powers of this law.

To arrest, and permanently detain any US citizen accused of supporting terrorism by said unknown government agencies.

In reality it allows the arrest and permanetly detainment of anyone accused of associating with anyone suspected of terrorism or suspected of being involved in a terrorist plot, past, present or future.

Aside from the obvious contitutional problems with this bill, are the definition problems with it. What are the parameters of the word "association," what are the parameters used for "suspected terrorism"? With all the gridlock in our goverment atm, this is the bill that gets such massive bi partisan support..........

@derek.hinch: That's not quite true. Many sects of Judaism believe that sinners do not enter Gehenna permanently like they enter Hell in some sects of Christianity. The maximum stay is around 11 months if I recall correctly. Gehenna is only a waystation and repository for damaged souls to be cleansed before entering Heaven. (If you believe in that sort of thing.)

There are only five souls permanently in Gehenna (and before you ask, I have no idea who they are and what they did to get there. Maybe they're the janitors.)

His only marketable skill is to fill otherwise dead air time that would normally be filled by infomercials. On a positive note I'd like to think that he may be keeping off the street they type of people who would be shouting obscenities at strangers on street corners and subways if they weren't home fascinated by the pulsating image of Bill O'Reilly on their television.

I think O'Reilly was joking right back. Personally, I don't watch ANY of the talking heads now. I found it to be a complete waste of my time. I will say that O'Reilly was much better (and less biased) than Maddow. I find it amusing how the libtards love to attack people when they disagree with their inane view of the world.

Facts and figures are more biased than opinion so I can see your point.

Linda: Just curious, you say libtards like to attack people when they disagree. Why do you think you are doing when you call them "Libtards". Just curious.

Bill O'Reilly makes me want to punch him in the face.

Jon Stewart makes me want to laugh in Bill O'Reilly's face instead.

Stewart is just a liberal idiot. He is a negative, cynical man with no regard for what is right, what is good, or pure.

OReilly on the other hand should have just ignored him or not made the last comment.

I believe they are friends, what is the commentary on that?

Jon Stewart is also Jewish, and I don't think they believe in Heaven and Hell, since supposedly they are still waiting for their messiah.

Doesn't anyone understand that the Old Testament is the foundation of both the Jewish and Christian faiths. What do you mean they don't believe in heaven or hell?

Talk to a practicing Jew. The issue is not as simple as your statement suggests. There is not a Christian concept of Hell in Judaism. It is even difficult to discuss using a Christian perspective. If you define Hell as eternal damnation in a fiery pit, then no, there is no Hell in Judaism. In fact, the concept of heaven is even somewhat different between the two faiths.

Take a look at O'Reilly's and Limbaugh's former careers, before they got the conservative 'religion'. They don't believe half the nonsense they spew every day, but do it because some lame corporation (News Corp.) is willing to give them millions to say it. Off air, I'm sure O'Reilly is a really nice guy, not the buffoon he plays on TV (just like Stewart and Colbert in real life aren't the people they portray).

Um, O'Reilly used to host Entertainment Tonight many moons ago. He's not exactly the authority on politics and American government. Hilarious how news stations (not only Fox News, but all of them) keep confusing their talking heads as journalists.

The presence of O'Reilly anywhere in the media proves beyond doubt that you can succeed without the slightest bit of talent or intelligence. Some earlier videos of his program indicate someone with serious "people" issues. Just be sure to let Billy have his way or the sky will fall as he loses anything resembling a composure. And if you're looking for someone with any integrity, you'll need to change the channel.
